Nineteen people came along to participate in the November 2017 Bird week. The peak breeding season for the island’s seabirds put on a good show for us all the walks. The weather allowed the pelagic trip to Balls Pyramid, and all were excited to see the rock itself plus the Kermadec petrel and White bellied storm petrel.
On our North Bay day there plenty of waders to observe out on the seagrass flats at low tide – and an unexpected guest turned up – a Little tern, only rarely seen on the island. A few other uncommon waders were Sharp tailed sandpiper and Red knot at Moseley Park Swamp. Another successful Bird week not only enjoying the birds, but the marine life, plants, snorkelling and some nice meals together.
