Research trip to Mount Gower to monitor palm regrowth.
This four-day trip with Andrew Denham and John Porter from NSW DoPIE was to monitor the regrowth in the two Mountain palm species following removal of rodents in 2019. We had carried out these surveys for a number of years leading up to the rodent eradication, and now the time to quantify the change. Visually there is an evident significant increase in palm seedings, and an initial look at the numbers show this. Always enjoyable to spend some days on the summit, and despite one quite rainy day, we managed to complete the required number of transects measuring seedlings. The whole summit flora is experiencing prolific seedling regrowth.
