On 19 December island resident Peter Higgins spotted these two Canada geese on the golf course. Native to Canada, there is a widespread feral population of this bird in New Zealand, and no doubt the two that turned up at Lord Howe Island were vagrant from that population. There have been only two other records of this bird on Lord Howe Island – one in 1969, the other 1977.
