May 2017 Friends of Lord Howe Island weeding trip

A big week with many of the regular Friend members along for this week, with a variety of weeding activities. – Edie’s Glen restoration; removal of Sea spurge from the Lagoon dunes, some Ground asparagus on Transit Hill. For a new project, the group went by boat out in the Lagoon to Blackburn Island where a revegetation program was abandoned some years ago. Ipomoea cairica had taken over the site, so the group spent a morning cutting and pasting the stems of this weed. A later inspection will determine if this method is effectible, and the FLHI may replant with more native shrubs. It wasn’t all work, and afternoons were spent on some of the more enjoyable walks – a low tide reef walks, North Bay, Malabar, Little Island and Clear Place.
