In July 2021 I travelled to Coffs Harbour for a ceremony to accept an Honorary Doctorate in Natural and Physical Sciences awarded by Southern Cross University. It was great privilege for to have recognition for the input into scientific research and observations on flora and fauna over 40 years that have contributed to many scientific papers. I also was the Occasional Speaker for the event, and shared the story of my unconventional career path on Lord Howe Island, working on many diverse projects with fellow scientists from around the world; and finished by encouraging graduating students to follow their passion.
