Sixteen members from the Queensland Field Naturalist Club for this March nature week. The group members were interested in all aspects of the island flora and fauna, so along then tracks we studied the plants, searched for insects and enjoyed seeing the seabirds flying all around. Good low tides for reef walking discovering all the good creatures in the rock pools. The seabirds delighted all on the Balls Pyramid trip “ we had a lovely stop to attract the birds – a mob of shearwaters, then the dainty White bellied storm petrels appeared and stole the show – delicately dancing on the waves- tickling the water to attract its prey.” All our the regular visiting waders were seen, and a couple of unusual ones – the Wandering tattler and Double banded plover. Four evening lectures plus an extra one with Australian Museum mammal researchers. All agreed it was a wonderful week of nature on the island.
