September 2016 Friends of Lord Howe Island Weeding Ecotour

This was another memorable weeding trip – number 81 since the first one run in 1995. The eighteen on the tour included a mix of veteran Friends of LHI weeders and some new faces.

Areas weeded included Edie’s Glen, an area adjacent to the Power House, removing small Cherry guava as well as a number of large Ground asparagus, the Calystegia affinis site at Old Settlement and a planting out project above Ned’s Beach with 40 native shrubs and trees planted.

Afternoon walks the group enjoyed were Boat Harbour, Malabar, Little Island; Ned’s Beach for a bbq and a low tide reef walk. And for a whole day we took the ferry over to North Bay, with short excursions around the rocks to the Herring Pools and a climb to Mount Eliza.

On the last night the weeders were invited to Government House for drinks and a big thankyou by Lord Howe Island Board CEO Penny Holloway.
