With COVID regulations in place on the island, the tours have been modified to comply with government best practice rules. A COVID plan has been drawn up and is to be adhered to on the tour. Tour numbers are kept small and social distancing regulations will be insisted upon. Each tour member will be supplied with a radio receiver to hear and talk to the guide so that the distancing can be maintained, yet all can hear the commentary. You can bring your own earphone to plug into the radio, or purchase a small earpiece on the tour.

Low tide marine walk
Three hours exploring the fascinating life in the intertidal areas- you will be surprised by the abundant animals living here – and their unique stories of survival.
Seabird cruise to Ball’s Pyramid
The most popular seabird activity for the enthusiast run by Ian since 2001. Visit Ball’s Pyramid to see many seabirds, including the Kermadec petrel, White-bellied storm petrel. In autumn and winter the chance to see albatross and other southern birds moving into our latitude.
North Bay
Visit on a half day or full day excursion to remote North Bay to enjoy a close look at geology, birds, plants and marine life with snorkeling included.

Lively audio-visual presentations held at the museum two nights each week. With COVID social distancing rules, the audience is limited to just 12 people, so it may be best to book ahead.
Monday – General Introduction, geology, flora, fauna, marine life, conservation wins and challenges, walk tracks.
Thursday – Birds of Lord Howe Island – learn about the landbirds, seabirds and their life patterns, visitor birds and conservation stories around the Woodhen rescue.
Special week-long tours
Bird week
Held in March and November each year this is a week of exploring the island to discover, observe and learn about Australia’s best seabird island. The itinerary includes guided walks, seabird cruises and lectures.
Rainforest week
Held in December each year to coincide with peak flowering time of our endemic plants. The itinerary covers most of the walks, culminating in the 9-hour return climb of Mount Gower to experience the largest range of plant species and the moss forest on the summit.
Photo week
Each day visit a different location on the island to hone your skills at photographing various subjects such a landscape, birds, marine life, flora and macro subjects. Evening lectures on digital camera function, Lightroom and Photoshop techniques.
Bush regeneration tours
The most popular tour where you can assist with conservation of this World Heritage Island. Each morning is spent assisting the Lord Howe Island Board with weed eradication, replanting projects or weed monitoring. Afternoons are spent exploring the island walking tracks discovering and learning about the plants, birds and marine life; with evening lectures.
